Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about California Superbike School Australia

Getting Started

I've never been on a track before. Can I still attend?

Absolutely. Level 1 is designed for riders of all experience levels, including first-time track riders. Our structured curriculum and personal coaching ensures you learn at your own pace in a safe, controlled environment.

Do I need a motorcycle licence?

Yes, you need a current motorcycle licence to attend. Learner-permitted riders are welcome at Level 1 events, but must hold at least a learner permit.

What level should I start at?

Everyone starts at Level 1, regardless of experience. Even professional racers start at L1 — the drills are designed so that every rider gets value. You must complete each level sequentially: L1, then L2, then L3, then L4.

Can I skip levels?

No. Level progression is enforced. Each level builds directly on the techniques taught in the previous level. This structure is what makes our school so effective.

Bikes & Gear

Do I need my own bike?

No. We have a fleet of 35 BMW motorcycles available for hire at every event. Choose from the S 1000 RR (superbike), S 1000 R (naked), or G 310 (lightweight). Hire bike pricing is added to the base event price.

What bikes are available for hire?

BMW S 1000 RR (205hp superbike, +$490), BMW S 1000 R (165hp naked roadster, +$490), and BMW G 310 (single-cylinder, +$450). All bikes are maintained to the highest standards with fresh tyres and full safety checks.

What gear do I need?

Full leather suit (one-piece or two-piece with zip), full-face helmet (current Australian Standard), leather gloves, motorcycle boots (above ankle), and a back protector. All gear is inspected on arrival.

Can I hire gear?

Yes. Full gear bundle for $120, or hire individual items: leather suit ($60), helmet ($40), back protector ($30), gloves ($30), boots ($30). Select your sizes during booking.

Booking & Payment

How much does it cost?

Prices vary by venue. Phillip Island and SMSP are $795 (own bike), Broadford and Morgan Park are $745. L4 Exclusive days are double the base price with half capacity. Hire bike surcharges range from $450-$490.

Can I pay a deposit?

Yes. You can secure your spot with a 30% deposit. The remaining balance is due 14 days before the event. If the balance is not paid by the due date, your deposit is forfeited and your spot may be released.

Is there a card surcharge?

A 2% payment processing surcharge is applied to all card payments.

What happens if the event is sold out?

You can join the waitlist. If a spot opens up, you'll receive an offer with a time-limited window to book (48 hours, decreasing as the event approaches). Waitlist is first-in-first-out.

Cancellations & Refunds

What is your cancellation policy?

Within 3 business days of booking: full refund. More than 30 days before event: full refund minus $50 admin fee. 14-30 days before: 75% credit voucher. Less than 14 days: your booking enters the resale queue — if your spot resells, you receive a 95% credit voucher.

Do you cancel for bad weather?

No. Our drills work in the wet. In fact, wet conditions can be some of the best learning opportunities as they amplify the effects of the techniques we teach. We do not offer refunds for weather conditions.

Can I transfer my booking to someone else?

Yes, bookings can be transferred to another rider subject to level requirements and admin approval. Contact us to arrange a transfer.

How long are gift vouchers valid?

Gift vouchers are valid for 36 months from the date of purchase, as required by Australian Consumer Law.

On the Day

What time do I need to arrive?

Registration opens at 7:00am. The first classroom session starts at 8:00am sharp. Please arrive early to complete sign-in and gear inspection.

What does a typical day look like?

The day alternates between classroom sessions and on-track riding. You'll have a classroom briefing for each drill, then ride the drill on track with your personal coach following behind you. There are typically 5-6 on-track sessions throughout the day.

Do I need to sign a waiver?

Yes. All participants must complete a waiver and safety briefing before riding. You can complete the waiver digitally during your booking, or on arrival. Waivers are valid for 12 months.
